Solid Propellant Engineering Section Records, Jun 1940-May 1986.

The collection was donated to the Archives by Winston Gin in October 1989. It was originally in notebook binders designated as Volume I through Volume IX and two notebook binders from the offices of H.L. Thackwell, Jr., Duane Dipprey, and Robert Anderson. It consists of photographs, reports, and memoranda gathered from several flight projects and spans the years from 1940 throgh 1986 with the bulk of the material covering 1943 through 1956. The items in the albums were removed and reorganized by JPL photo number. One large photograph album has been left intact and is stored with oversized documents. Box number 1 contains textual material that has been separated from the photographs and combined in one box for convenience and ease of access. (Please note that the folders are labeled Winston Gin.). Box number 2 contains textual material from the office of H.L.Thackwell, Jr., and consists of reports and memoranda from the Sergeant program. It was taken from one notebook binder labeled Book No. 1. (Please note that the folders are labeled Winston Gin.). Box number 3 through 6 contain numbered photographs from section 211, 241, 292, 293, 334, 344, 345, 351, 352, 353, 373, 381, 382, 383, 384, M, JPL, JB, P, and Ex. The Solid Propulsion Engineering section is 381 and there are more 381 photographs than any other. There is some indication that the photographs were used to create the exhibits that are represented in the collection, including: folder #71 the Explorer 10th anniversary display and folders 71 through #74 the Solid propellant technology display, the OAST display and the NASA Headquarters display. Duplicate textual material and photographs have been removed from the collection.
